The call of the Mechwarrior was strong, so I dusted off my old BattleTech collection and am rediscovering humanity's destiny in the 31st Century

BATTLETECH

After having done this a few times already, prepping my games is becoming almost a science as much as an art. Started out by magnetizing my mechs, then writing their names on the bottom of the bases because there's no way I'll be able to remember all these models. There's plenty of cardboard buildings and trees to assemble so, between the boxes I got, it took almost an hour to put them up and glue them together (noticed the trees would come apart quite easily).

Next, decided to stick with Catalyst's recommendation of using blue, yellow, and white dice to denote mech movement. Went with smaller 10mm ones as I find they help make the mechs look that much larger on the table. And of course, had to sleeve my cards up.

After mucho searching online, I finally admitted defeat on finding a physical copy of the Alpha Strike Commander's Edition book, so opted for the PDF instead. Then had the bright idea of getting a thermal document binding machine to put it in a nice protective shell. This after seeing that getting Kinkos or Officemax to print and bind this 200+ page doc would have been upwards of $150. For less than $60, found a neat machine on Amazon and I really can't argue with results!

Terrain assembled, and feeling fairly familiar with at least the basic Alpha Strike rules, ran through a few small skirmishes. Bit of a Timberwolf fanboy (can you really blame me?) and it certainly didn't disappoint. Now I think, it's time to settle into coming up with a homebrew campaign, and these sweet Hextech pieces will let me add some twists in to boot. Fall of Weevosgrad, anyone?
